This post on friendships ending is from back in March 2010. Before I grasped how to insert pictures in my blog posts. Yup, there was a tech un-savvy time to my blog. I think the post still applies today. Friendships end. It stinks. But at some point letting go is the better choice. Hopefully before it reaches the bitter point.

Perfect photo to complement that post. Bitter is never good. I think it takes a skilled and attentive listener to know when it’s time to let go of the relationship. It’s never an easy path to recognize.

I’m stubborn too. If I care I care. Right up until the moment when I don’t. I’ll work at things. I’ll give it my best effort. But I’m coming to realize sometimes it is better to just end stuff. Or at least admit it is dying out and that may be for the best.

First off – I think he could’ve handled the parting of ways better! Second? The post is an honest assessment of friendships that have run their course. There’s tough times on both sides when it happens. I’ve been on the receiving end and been the giver of the bad news and neither one felt good.

Agreed. Sometimes I wonder what happened to the tact button. Because people never seem to use it.
it is tough being on either end. Especially if someone doesn’t want to let go. It hurts. But I guess it’s just another life lesson. Friendships end. And eventually you get over the bitter and appreciate what you had when it was good.

That’s a nice post, Kourtney. And I think you’re right. People change and that causes drifting apart. To do otherwise requires real committment, like a marriage or long-term partnership. But I think we’re always better because of the people we’ve known.

Carrie thanks for reminding me that the end doesn’t always quantify the entire relationship. It stings longer. But eventually, I can see how e time spent with people was never a waste even if they ended up exiting my life or vice verse.

We can’t make others do what we want. We can only control what we do and how we do it. Sometimes, it isn’t enough to sustain a relationship. Hopefully, we learn and grow, as you have done.

Very true. It’s something that is hard to grapple with. I’m going through a period where I’m just taking the now and not asking about the later. It’s fundamentally about being the best me I can be. And sometimes that means cutting the cord with people I loved.

It always hurts when a friendship ends, even if you were the one ending it for whatever reason. More so, of course, if the other party ends what you thought is a special friendship.

Either way hurts. At least when you end it you see it coming and can prepare for it. The endee is usually blindsided. I definitely was.
it’s funny to read the post 2 years later and realize time does heal all wounds.
