I started with the Warsteiner Pilsner. I’m not a big beer drinker, but this was pretty awesome.
We were given a complimentary German coleslaw with cottage cheese and saltines. Sounds weird but it tastes DEVINE.
An accordion player walked through the restaurant taking requests.
The main room is huge and loud. But it looked really fun. We sat in the older section of the restaurant in booths.
The old part of the restaurant was pretty adorable.
I ordered a wurst sampler appetizer with sauerkraut–forgetting my meal came with an appetizer. I only ate 1/3 and saved the rest for another night.
Then my meal appetizer came–liver pate with chopped onions which I scooped onto saltines–soooo yummie!
Then a nice house salad.

My meal was jager schnitzel with spatzle. I loved the schnitzel, but wasn’t in love with the mushroom sauce.
My dinner was all inclusive and included pie. Coconut Cream pie. Perfect ending to the meal.
What’s your favorite ethnic food? Mine is Austrian, but German is a close second.

You have to sometimes. Mine’s been so tired and mushy from revisions. I’m trying to give it a break this weekend.

I love German food. After living in Germany for two years it’s hard to find authentic German food in my neck of the woods. I did find a German deli near by that has all my bratwurst and knockwurst, etc. I could want, and their schnitzel and spatzle is to die for. I have to admit I can make a darn good sauerbraten and an awesome Roladin so long as the butcher slices the meat thin enough. top it off with a nice Riesling…
Your meal looks wonderful and made me really hungry.
I think I just gained 10 pounds looking at the pics.

It feels so hearty and filling. I love a good goulash too. I had a week in Austria back in 2009 and it forever changed my palette. I crave Austrian and German food now. The sauerbraten yum! LOL. Sorry to make you hungry so early in the day.
LOL. Ten virtual pounds should come off faster than the real deal.

Yum! I love German food, but it’s often seeming a bit heavy. I love Thai and Japanese; sometimes, Vietnamese.

It is a definitely a more hearty food. I couldn’t eat it daily but I do enjoy it.

Hey you’d be right at home in central TX. When I was little sometimes I would go with a friend to her grandparents’ farm there (the older ones spoke little English). Home cooked German food. Especially good in cold weather!
Right now some fresh salmon cooked on the grill sounds good…maybe a little dill sauce with it. OK quitting for lunch now

Oh that sounds wonderful. Homemade German food. Sigh. It’s so hearty–perfect in fall and winter.
Oh that does sound yummie. I like salmon slathered in honey mustard and baked in foil. It locks in the moisture and the seasonings.
Plus I don’t have a grill. Have a delicious lunch!

Italian for me.
You have no idea how much I wanted to grab that beer right off the page. TGIF. Tonight a beer awaits me.

I like Italian. It just happens to be my parent’s favorite which means we eat it a lot.
I might like German/Austrian less if I got to have it more.
LOL. TGIF. Hope you have one just as delicious tonight.

I’m not sure I can choose one ethnic favorite—Serbian, Italian, Spanish? Hmm…. Nope, can’t do it!
My husband, though, would probably love that meal you had!

It’s tough. I got spoiled in NY dining on every ethnic food I wanted. Austrian/German was a new discovery in 2009. That might be why it’s my favorite.
LOL. My parents were in awe of how much I savored my food. I haven’t enjoyed a meal like that in ages.

Looks like fun, Kourtney. We are mostly vegetarian, so Indian and Thai are family favorites.
January 11, 2013 at 11:53 pm
Kourtney Heintz
That’s understandable. Both are delicious cuisines though I tend to be spice sensitive so they can overwhelm me.

I can see how they could. We usually order it mild, depending upon who is dining with us.
January 12, 2013 at 7:08 pm
Kourtney Heintz
LOL. I tried that at a Thai restaurant. Their mild was my inferno.
Indian restaurants have been better about despicing.

So much fun!! I like German food, too, as well as Austrian. But in my neck of the woods we don’t see a lot of those restaurants.
My all time favorite would have to be Italian. Mexican is runner-up.
January 12, 2013 at 7:09 pm
Kourtney Heintz
Yeah, there isn’t one near us, it’s a half hour drive. Mexican is tough after two years living in San Diego–everything they call Mexican in the northeast doesn’t quite ring true to my tastebuds. Italian is good. I just get inundated with it. It’s my parents go to food.

I want to try authentic German food, but I honestly could not find anything that you listed yummy-sounding. Not that it isn’t good. Based on what I like and dislike, I usually do not enjoy coleslaw, liver anything, raw onions, sauerkraut, and anything doused in a mushroom sauce. The only part I knew I would love was the coconut pie. Still, the food looks amazing, even though my palette may disagree with the tastes. Do you go to this restaurant often?
My favorite foods come from Asia. I love a buffet (as American as the food is), sushi, terriyaki, and anything in a salty brown sauce. Eggrolls are my favorite thing, honestly. Now I’m hungry!

Taste is such a personal thing. I completely understand what you mean.
If you like chicken mcnuggets, you might enjoy wiener schnitzel, which is just the plain breaded cutlet without mushrooms and sauce.
The pie was delicious. This was my first time. If I can find someone to go back with I will again. Parents weren’t too keen on German food.
I hear you on the Asian food. I love Thai, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese too. Weirdly, I’ve eaten more Asian food than German food. I think that’s part of my obsession. It’s harder to find good German food than good Asian food in the northeast.

I do love your posts with pictures of food!
Italian food probably gets my vote, though sweet and sour chicken is difficult to beat.

Danke schön für diese Fotos, Kourtney

Well, I’m not a big fan of German and Austrian food because I’m a vegetarian so…
My favorite food: 1) Italian 2) Greek. I’m a Mediterranean girl!
