Silver Linings Playbook was an unexpected pleasure. My mom really wanted to see it. I was interested, but not nearly as motivated as her.
But we went.
And I LOVED it.
Bradley Cooper turned out one of his best performances ever. He was so deep in character I forgot he was Bradley Cooper. It’s so rare to see actors actually well acting. And Jennifer Lawrence. That woman can act her butt off.
The supporting cast were riveting and the perfect foil to Cooper and Lawrence. Robert DeNiro was AMAZING. The father-son dynamic and the father-mother-son dynamic were so intricate. It was like slipping inside your neighbor’s house and watching their family interact.
The clip gives you an idea of the story. It’s a character-driven, messy story filled with broken moments. But it was terrifically real.
My mom and I laughed dozens of times. There is something beautiful and tragic and heartwarming in these characters and their struggles. I loved ever second of the movie. In fact, I’d go see it again and again.

Thanks Lyra. It was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. Phenomenal acting where you forgot these were actors and swore they were the characters they were playing.

Oh, I’m with you. LOVED this movie. And the dance scene was like the dessert after a fantastic meal.

My mom and I nearly peed our pants during the dance scene. It was awkward and so disarming. It felt like the perfect representation of their entire relationship. Loved it!!!!

I loved it too Kourtney, I think it’s great when a movie can make me laugh AND take me on an emotional journey.

Cool! You nailed it. It made me laugh and think and feel. That’s a rarity. It did what a great book does for me.

Thanks Catherine! It was a must see film of 2013.
We saw it on New Year’s Day in a packed theater. He’s so hot, but here he was vulnerable and flawed and so emotionally gorgeous.
Let me know what you think.

Wow, that is indeed way to early a morning. I’m not an AM girl.

I thought you might be watching it on a pirated site or something. They get them when they are still in theaters. Not that I condone that. But glad to hear you are going out to the theater to watch it.
Yeah the music was very powerful. I’ll have to check that out. Happy weekend!

Wonderful weekend to you too! I’m working away on manuscript submissions from the last conference in August. Had to do some revising before I sent stuff out. How did 5 months fly by so fast?

Yup, months fly by when I’m revising. Time never seems to be enough. So true. Ugh, I am the kind of person if you mess with my eating or my sleeping, I’m screwed up for a day or two. So annoying. Hope Yoga helped. Sometimes when I fly across multiple timezones, the only way to save my sanity is to meditate.
They say 30 mins of meditation can substitute for a couple hours of sleep but I’m no good on less than 8 hrs.

Good morning! Excellent. I can’t do yoga because of my spine surgery but I think it’s pretty similar. Meditating is just stilling the mind while the body is still.
Oh wow, I love crazy storms.
LOL. Take your time. It’ll be out a while since it’s racking up the awards. Silly movies are fun. Nice to relax and not focus.
Have a great day!

Yes! Exactly. It was so heart-wrenching and gut twisting. I got so involved in what happened to the characters–it was like they were my dearest friends and I was rooting for them.

I have not seen this movie, but it sounds great. I love movies that get to me so deeply that I want to see them again and again. Sadly, there aren’t enough out there like that.

It really was a terrific character driven movie. Made me want to read the book. There was so much subtlety and layering I feel like I need to see it again to really appreciate it. I agree. This movie was under limited release too. It was hard to find a theater playing it. But it was worth the drive.

It’s so worth seeing. Ugh I’d totally go with you if I lived nearby. It’s more of a girl movie than a guy movie. My dad was not happy with the lack of things blowing up.
